Wendel becomes the Founding Sponsor of the Centre Pompidou-Metz

Wendel and the Centre Pompidou-Metz entered into a partnership agreement.

Through this agreement, Wendel will become the founding sponsor of the Centre Pompidou- Metz, which will open to the public on May 11. Wendel is committed to working alongside this new institution over the next five years, to contribute to its development and influence on the
French and international cultural stage.

The Centre Pompidou-Metz, a sister institution of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, is the first example of decentralisation of a major national cultural institution. It has shared the founding values of the Centre Pompidou: innovation, generosity, open to all and involving multiple disciplines. The Centre Pompidou Metz have access to more than 65,000 works in the Centre Pompidou, which houses the largest collection of modern and contemporary art in Europe, to enable it to offer an autonomous cultural programme which covers all disciplines of artistic creativity.

Frédéric Lemoine, Chairman of Wendel’s Executive Board said that, “Wendel is extremely proud of this agreement, which will enable the company to support a flagship project for the Lorraine region, the birthplace of the Group and its founding families. We wanted this partnership to adhere to Wendel’s own core values of long-term investing, which is a synonym for loyalty and solidarity in our commitments, innovation, which we believe is key to creating not only economic value, but also human, artistic and corporate value, and the ambition to step up our international influence in a region at the heart of Europe.”

Wendel and the Wendel international center for family enterprise

Since 1996 Wendel has lent its support to creating a university teaching chair at INSEAD, an internationally known business school with campuses in Fontainebleau, France, and Singapore, to increase awareness by young generations of students of the economic importance of familyowned
companies and their special management features. The success of this program recently led to the establishment of the Wendel International Center for Family Enterprise, which is now a global center of excellence in studying and researching family-owned companies. Our Group is represented at the center by Priscilla de Moustier

The Center has consolidated and expanded its activities in Asia, organizing an in-depth instruction program in Singapore, launching the Southeast Asian section of the Family Business Network and organizing events, conferences and training modules for leaders in Singapore,
Shanghai and Hong Kong. The Centre has also expanded geographically into the Middle East. In early 2008, several events were held in coordination with INSEAD’s new Abu Dhabi center. In 2010, the Center will offer its fl agship program on family-owned companies, The Family Enterprise Challenge, or FAME, a four-day seminar on family-owned companies, which will also be expanded to INSEAD’s two
campuses, in Europe and Asia..

INSEAD’s activities in family-owned companies, initiated with the backing of the Wendel Group, now enjoy the additional support of other individuals and family-owned companies, in particular the Tetra Laval Research Fund for the Large Family Firm, the Berghmans/Lhoist Chair in Entrepreneurial Leadership and the André and Rosalie Hoffmann Research Fund for Family Enterprise.

Praise for the International Center

On October 31, 2008, the Wendel International Center for Family Enterprise and Randel Carlock, Professor at INSEAD and Director of the Center, were given the International Award for Achievement by the Family Firm Institute (FFI). The FFI recognizes outstanding contributions to the fi eld of family-owned companies and “family offi ce” consultancy, as well as to knowledge of this type of structure as a form of commercial company. This international prize is given in recognition of a contribution to greater understanding of the general issues surrounding family-owned companies.
